Angola is facing the worst drought in its history. Recent UN reports estimate that 7.3 million people, including nearly 4 million children, are hungry and in need of assistance due to climate shocks. In these regions, drought threatens more than 1 million people!
Some have to walk about 30 kilometers to reach the nearest water source. After walking so far, more and more of them find and dig puddles with more mud than water.
And they have to make enough for both their families and livestock.
Women and children are the most affected by malnutrition.
Wells will be installed close to the community plot of arable land. They will be used for crops, livestock, and human purposes.
A sand dam acts as a "natural container" for water flowing during the rainy season preventing evaporation. Then, it gradually releases the water accumulated all along the dry season
The pastoralist communities are efficiently organised to identify and act on effective measures to adapt to the effects of climate change.
